Deck Construction
A well-built deck extends your living space and adds measurable value to your home. We design and build custom decks using pressure-treated lumber, natural wood, or low-maintenance composite systems — with proper footing engineering, structural framing, and code-compliant railings.
Scope of Work
Every project is different. Here's what falls within our scope for Deck Construction — and we're always happy to discuss custom scope items specific to your project.
- Custom deck design and layout
- Concrete footing and post base installation
- Pressure-treated structural framing
- Composite, PVC, and wood decking boards
- Stair construction — single and multi-flight
- Railing systems — wood, metal, cable, and glass
- Deck lighting and electrical conduit rough-in
- Ledger flashing and waterproofing
Our Process
Site Assessment & Design
We assess your yard, existing structure, and intended use — then sketch a layout showing dimensions, framing direction, stair locations, and railing style to confirm the design before any permits are pulled.
Permitting
Most decks require a building permit. We prepare or assist with the required documentation, site plan, and footing specifications to submit to your local municipality.
Footing Installation
Concrete footings are dug below the frost line and poured to the correct diameter for the load they'll carry. Post bases are set at this stage and allowed to cure before framing begins.
Structural Framing
The ledger is flashed and anchored to the house band joist. Beams, joists, and blocking are installed at the correct on-center spacing for the decking product and span.
Decking Installation
Boards are fastened with hidden fasteners or face-screws depending on the product, maintaining consistent spacing for drainage and expansion. Composite and PVC products follow manufacturer installation specs precisely.
Stairs, Railings & Finish
Stairs are constructed with consistent rise and run. Railing posts are core-drilled and bolted to the framing — never surface-mounted. Rails and balusters are installed to code height and spacing requirements.
